How to Perform ‘Kumbh Snan’ at Home
Not everybody can go to Mahakumbh at Triveni at Pryagraj, India Here is a Ritual for having Kumbh Snan at your home.
- Preparation:
- Wake up early and clean the bathing area.
- Mix Ganga Jal to water collected from two separate sources. (e.g. Ganga jal, Tap water and bottled water) Pray to God that you are at Triveni having bath with water from Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers
- Light a diya and incense to create a sacred atmosphere.
- Invoke Sacred Rivers:
- Chant the mantra:
गङ्गे च यमुने चैव गोदावरी सरस्वति।
नर्मदे सिन्धु कावेरी जलऽस्मिन्सन्निधिं कुरु॥
(Gange cha Yamune chaiva Godavari Saraswati, Narmade Sindhu Kaveri jala’smin sannidhim kuru)
- Pray to the Sun God and other deities for blessings.
- Sacred Bath: Pour water over yourself using a copper or brass pot, while chanting “Om Namo Narayanaya” or “Om Namah Shivaya.”
- Post-Snan:
- Wear fresh clothes and perform a small aarti.
